EAST WILTON — Western Maine Community Action (WMCA) is seeking interested people in Androscoggin and Oxford counties who have received its services to consider joining the WMCA board.
“We are looking for someone who wants to help us make a difference for low income families,” Fen Fowler, executive director, said. “We are seeking an Androscoggin County resident and a Franklin County resident willing to volunteer two and a half hours a month to serve as a member of our board.”
Fowler said WMCA’s board has three sectors — public, private and consumer, and that two vacancies exists in the consumer sector. Consumer seats must be filled by people who have received WMCA services or who are eligible to receive fuel assistance or who are willing to represent WMCA customers on the board.
“This is a way for someone who has been helped by WMCA to have an impact on the services we deliver by helping us identify unmet needs,” Fowler said. “Our board members are all volunteers, but we are able to reimburse consumers for travel and child care expenses to allow them to attend board meetings.”
Fowler said the board meets on the third Tuesdays of every other month and that all board members commit to serve on board committees, which meet during the alternate months.
WMCA is a nonprofit community action agency serving Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties with a variety of programs designed to help people become financially secure.
