Society speaker
MINOT — The Minot Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the Town Office when speaker will be Jill Snyder Wallace on the “Motivation Behind the Making,” a show-and-tell about her embroideries and mixed-media fiber art.
Her creations are influenced by a love of history and desire to experiment with new techniques. By using a wide vocabulary of embroidery stitches and the inclusion of found objects, mixed-media fiber art steeped in women’s work associations are created. Communicating a thought, question, or emotion is Snyder Wallace’s primary focus.

POLAND — The Poland Historical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at Pa’s Tradin’ Co., Route 26, Oxford. Owner Paul Cote will give a presentation on the topic of area manufactured articles. Members and guests are invited. For more information, call Mary Chipman at 998-4391.
Benefit dinner
AUBURN — A benefit dinner will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, at Andy’s Baked Beans, Broad Street, New Auburn. The cost will be $5 and entertainment will be provided. Pinochle results
LEWISTON — After 15 weeks of play, the Pinochle League at the Multi-Purpose Center has announced the following standings: Most games won, Richard Champagne 54 and Doris Cormier 54; most washes, Cecile LeTourneau 9 and Roger Briggs 7.
