AUBURN — Larry Gowell, a well-known vocalist and trumpet player from Auburn, will bring in the Auburn Art Club new year with music. The club’s first meeting of 2011 will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, in the Auburn Methodist Church, Park Avenue.
Plans for Gowell’s performance were made by Donna Manson, chairwoman, with committee members Eleanor Truit, Dorothy Murray and Genevieve Dussault, all of Auburn.
Gowell said he will present a program of popular and inspirational music, sometimes as a vocalist and sometimes as a trumpet and flugelhorn player.
He recently recorded his first inspirational album, titled “Music for the Soul.” The album will be available by donation to club members at the meeting. Proceeds from album sales are used in Gowell’s statewide ministry to shut-ins and nursing home residents.
Gowell has played the trumpet since age 7, became a soloist at age 13 and has recorded original songs with his brother, Dick. He is also a soloist with many church choirs and recently performed at the United Methodist annual convention for ministers in Maine and New Hampshire.
The Auburn Art Club is composed of 50 women who encourage the arts throughout the community. Bonnie Ross is president.
