LIVERMORE FALLS — The gift cards taken during a burglary at the Cedar Street Learning Center over Christmas vacation were part of a literacy grant, RSU 36 Superintendent Sue Pratt said.
The RSU 36/Jay Adult and Continuing Education program, located in the building that houses the RSU 36 Central Office, was awarded a $25,000 literacy grant last year to help teens and young adult parents to stay in school or enroll in adult education services.
The grant is from the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy’s Maine Family Literacy initiative.
During the burglary, gift cards for local businesses estimated to be valued at about $925, were stolen along with four laptops.
Livermore Falls officer Steve Allen arrested Logan Couturier, 23, of Livermore Falls on charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief in connection with the case.
Police estimated the total value of stolen goods is about $4,600 with most of the items recovered, except $50 in gift cards.
