FALMOUTH —Drew Peterson’s free throw with 1.7 seconds remaining gave Poland a thrilling 51-50 come-from-behind win over Falmouth in WMC boys’ basketball action Friday night.
Trailing by five with 30 seconds to go, the Knights got five straight points from Logan Nichols to tie the game at 50 apiece. Falmouth held the ball for the last shot but missed, and Peterson was fouled in the rebounding action. He made the front end of a one-and-one, then deliberately missed the second to run out the clock.
Jake Littlefield scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Knights (3-4), while Nichols finished with nine points. Matt Packard led the Yachtsmen (4-3) with 20 points.
Waynflete 73, Gould 33
BETHEL — Senior forward Jon Veroneau led five players in double digits with a game-high 17 points as Waynflete out hustled Gould to a 73-33 victory in boys’ basketball action Friday.
The Huskies (1-2) kept pace in the first half, trailing by just two at the midpoint. Senior guard Will Bunge led Gould with seven points on three field goals and a free throw.
The Flyers (4-3) wore down the Huskies with excellent pressure in the second half, outpacing Gould 25-6 in each of the two frames.
Jon Cutler and Alex Hadiaris posted 13 and 12 points, respectively, while Andrew Horon and Matthew Belleau added 11 points each for Waynflete.
Cony 55, Oxford Hills 49
AUGUSTA — Walker Cooper controlled the paint with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead Cony to a 55-49 victory over Oxford Hills in KVAC boys’ basketball action.
Robert Foss chipped in with 12 points and Anthony Roberts 11 points and four assists for the Rams (5-3). Matt McVety paced the Vikings (2-7) with nine points while John Frechette added eight.
Cape Elizabeth 67, Gray-NG 41
CAPE ELIZABETH — Theo Bowe poured in a sizzling 25 points to lead Cape Elizabeth to a 67-41 triumph over Gray-New Gloucester in WMC boys’ basketball action Friday.
The Capers improved upon a 20-12 first quarter lead with an 18-4 run in the second half for a 38-16 halftime advantage. Cam Brown contributed 10 points for Cape Elizabeth.
Senior guard Adam Jensen led the Patriots with 14 points on five field goals, including a three-pointer, and three free throws in the losing effort.
