DIXFIELD — A 14-year-old Dixfield boy was arrested last week on a charge of felony unlawful sexual contact.

Sgt. Jeff Howe of the Dixfield Police Department, said the Dirigo High School student was arrested at his home at 6 p.m. Jan. 5, after an investigation into a Dec. 30 incident at a Dixfield residence. The incident was reported to high school officials, who notified the Police Department.

Howe said the boy was released to the custody of his mother, and was directed to have no contact with the victim, a 14-year-old Dirigo High School girl.

He is scheduled to appear in juvenile court on April 5.

Howe said the number of reported sex crimes involving high school students has increased during the past couple of years. However, he believes many others are not reported because the victims do not want to face problems with other students in the school.
