DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there anyone who does invisible weaving? I have a sweater that needs to have this done. Thank you. — No Name via e-mail
ANSWER: When Sun Spots, who is craft-impaired, went to look this up, she discovered that it also refers to a technique used with hair. As for your sweater, she is sure one of her readers will know of someone with this talent.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a drawer full of VHS tapes, mostly family archives, that I would like converted into CDs. Do you know of any Lewiston-Auburn area person or company that does that sort of thing? Thank you. — Susan Trask, Auburn, [email protected]
ANSWER: Sun Spots thinks you mean DVDs (which includes video; CDs do not), and she has two names for you from her electronic Rolodex:
* Al Ibarguen, Wilton, [email protected], 645-4250
* Francis Gagnon, Via-Vision, 18 College St., Lewiston, 783-2550, www.viavisionproductions.com
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for someone who upholsters furniture in the Lewiston-Auburn or Gray area?
Also, who converts slides to pictures or on a disc? Thanks. — No Name via e-mail
ANSWER: When Sun Spots had a question about upholstery last fall, readers wrote in with the following suggestions:
* Maine Correctional Center in Windham has a large upholstery shop that has been doing excellent work for more than 20 years at very reasonable prices. All the work is done by inmates learning new work skills.
* Decorating Plus, Gray, 784-0173, 657-8103
* Maine Stitch Upholstery, 40 York St., Bath, ME 04530, 729-4612
* Leo’s Custom Auto Upholstery, 28 Riverside Drive, Auburn, 782-3822, offers limited furniture upholstery during the winter months
* Mary’s Upholstery, Route 196 in Topsham, 353-7638
* Hill’s Upholstery 346 Lewiston Road, Topsham, 725-2485
As for slide conversions, the only name Sun Spots has for that is Photo Finish, 550 Center St., in Auburn, 783-3354.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I haven’t written to Sun Spots in a long time, but now I do need you. Can you find out if there is anyone who can take a pair of very comfortable shoes, which tie with Velcro, and change the Velcro? Mine don’t hold anymore, and the shoes are just a couple of months old. Thank you for all your help. — Bert Dutil, [email protected]
