LEWISTON — Dr. Jean Rigaud A. Antoine, president of the Evangelical Alliance of Haiti, will speak to the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club on Thursday, Feb. 24. The presentation will highlight a possible Rotary International Project in Haiti.

After the earthquake of Jan. 12, 2010, thousands of Haitians were displaced from their homes. Many fled Port-au-Prince and settled a tent community, naming it Jerusalem, Haiti.

The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club is researching the feasibility of starting an international project in Jerusalem, Haiti. This project includes plans to build a school, orphanage, medical clinic and church.

Dr. Antoine serves as the director and founder of a school for pre-K through grade 13 as well as the Wayom Timoun (Kingdom of Kids) Orphanage in Port-au-Prince. The Orphanage is currently home to more than 80 children, many of whom are being adopted by families in Maine. Dr. Antoine will be presenting information on an international project that the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club is invested in partnering with the Port-au-Prince Rotary Club.

The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary club meets every Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Ramada Inn. Lunch is $8 per person.
