LEWISTON — The city of Lewiston is seeking an individual who would be willing to volunteer his/her time to assist with updating the city’s traffic schedule. The schedule is divided into 50 sections relating to street sign postings and enforcement of parking regulations.
Lewiston Police Inspector Dave Chick said, “There are quite a few entries that are either obsolete, have street name changes, or the language is not an accurate communication. We are looking for someone who could assist in reviewing entries one section at a time. First, the person would cross check with what is readily available using Google Earth or similar computer means and, secondly, by field assessment through a visual look at sign postings, etc., and taking some measurements.”
The volunteer undertaking the tasks would meet regularly with Chick and Lewiston Highway Traffic Supervisor Steve Murch.
Chick said, “In the end, this work will clean up the traffic schedule and ensure its relevance, which will present much more credibly as a working document.”
Anyone interested in th volunteer opportunity may acquire a volunteer application by visiting www.lewistonmaine.gov and click on the volunteer link under “Special Notices.” Instructions on submission will also be found at that location. A background check will be conducted on the individual that is selected to undertake the review.
