Laurier “Larry” Morin, center, shakes hands with Lewiston Fire Inspector Paul Ouellette after being given a ride home from Lewiston Fire Department’s Central Station aboard Ladder One on Sunday morning, his final day with the department. Morin’s first day as a Lewiston firefighter was Oct. 31, 1971. Retirement won’t be easy at first for Morin, Connie, his wife since 1964, far right, said. “That is family down there,” Connie said about the department. “That is his other life. It will be difficult for him to leave his other home.” Morin graduated from St. Dom’s in 1963 — the reason he chose number 63 for his badge. “Firefighting is much more than a career to him. It is his life,” one of Morin’s daughters Linda, second from right, said. “Firefighting is his heart and soul,” Cindy Burton, another of Morin’s three daughters, said. “What his friends (at the station) will miss most is his French accent coming in over the radio,” chuckled Connie.
