I am writing in opposition to LD 788 and LD 309, the proposed “Right to Work for Less” bills.

I am disappointed that Gov. Paul LePage is focused on making it more difficult for middle-class families to get by, instead of creating good jobs and strengthening Maine’s economy.

Who do these bills benefit? Certainly not families like ours.

Those bills are aimed at benefiting out-of-state interests and corporate CEOs, because if LePage succeeds and destroys unions here in Maine, he knows that there’ll be no one to fight for middle-class Mainers.

And to do it, he is grossly distorting the facts. LePage says that this is about freedom, but LDs 788 and 309 will actually eat away at workers’ rights.

No one can be forced to join a union. Saying otherwise is just designed to scare people into supporting corporate CEO interests.

Politicians should work for the people who elected them. There needs to be a balance that brings leaders together to create quality jobs here in Maine and solve the problems hurting middle-class families.

“Right to Work for Less” is a thinly veiled attempt to bust unions. Supporting it would not only be dangerous for workers, but for other families and the local economies, as well.
