AUBURN — A 72-year-old man was killed Friday afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a tree on Lake Shore Drive.
Police said the rider was headed west on Lake Shore Drive about 3:30 p.m. when he drove off the roadway and struck a tree.
When emergency officials arrived, the man, who had been wearing a helmet, was unresponsive, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were not identifying him Friday night as they notified relatives.
Lewiston police assisted Auburn with a crash reconstruction. The crash remained under investigation.
The area where the crash occurred is along a curve in the road where Lake Shore Drive winds around Lake Auburn. Police said there are no indications that speed or alcohol were factors in the wreck.
