I write in support of Bonny Bishop, who is running for state representative in House District 77 — Hartford, Canton, Peru, Mexico, Dixfield and part of Livermore. Bonny spent 10 years in the Maine National Guard, worked in health care, and is a 14-year hospice volunteer along with being involved in other volunteer opportunities. She […]

Richard Whiting: Sheats ‘the best candidate’ for Senate District 20
I support Bettyann Sheats for state Senate; she is the best candidate for our district. She will listen to her constituents, and work effectively with Democrats, Republicans and independents. On the other hand, her opponent, Eric Brakey, hung up on me when I called asking him to support legislation putting an affordable housing bond on […]
Ellen Grunblatt: Hoke offers true representation to House District 76
I’m writing in support of Tamara Hoke’s campaign to represent the residents of state House District 76. I use that term purposefully. Tammy will represent us in Augusta. Her desire to serve has grown out of her lifelong commitment to this area, her knowledge and direct experience of people’s needs, and her recognition that the […]
Patrick Flood: Senate candidate Rotundo an experienced, caring leader
As a former legislator in the opposing party, I have great admiration for Margaret (Peggy) Rotundo, candidate for state Senate District 21. We worked for eight years together on the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations and Financial Affairs. Assuredly, we differed on many of the policy areas which we were charged with funding. Yet, […]
Phoenix McLaughlin and Abbe Ramanan: Rabasco would ‘tackle crime at its roots’ as DA
Much of the crime in our community stems from issues related to addiction or mental health. Yet our justice system’s basic response to any crime is jail time, not treatment for someone’s underlying problems. As a result, the same people get arrested repeatedly. That is unfair to victims — as well as law enforcement — […]
Rich Lowry: Biden’s migrant crisis hits the blue states
The crux of the matter is that the Biden Administration dismantled or downgraded every policy that had established control over the Southern border under his predecessor and is directly responsible for the record number of illegal immigrants flooding into the country. If the influx wasn’t so large, there’d be fewer migrants to sign up for the bus trips north and east to blue cities sponsored by Texas and Arizona.
Cal Thomas: Looks who’s talking, Justice Kagan
Liberals in general, and Justice Elena Kagan in particular, are upset by the decisions of the conservative majority.
Froma Harrop: On border chaos, Republicans are even more to blame
The truth is that Republicans, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, have stymied serious efforts, even conservative ones, to curb the flow of undocumented immigrants. Florida is every bit as much a “sanctuary state” as New York. DeSantis just doesn’t call it that.
Austin Bay: End fake peace mentality and treat North America as the war zone it is
We’re in 2022. Low tension is history. In August 2019, then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo addressed the reality. “We’re entering a new age of strategic engagement in the Arctic,” Pompeo said, “complete with new threats to the Arctic and its real estate, and to all of our interests in that region.”
