The Ukraine war has been a conflict of stark phases and strategic adjustments and re-adjustments. The Russians will presumably have their answer to the current Ukrainian push, and if they don’t, one reason will be that they are running out of those pillars of hard power — men and materiel.

Austin Bay: Will China’s moment of advantage lead to war with America?
Several factors indicate China has a moment of strategic advantage, a window of opportunity from now until 2026 to deal the U.S. a severe defeat. Beijing’s goal: diplomatic and economic superiority lasting decades. U.S. weakness could lead to Taiwanese capitulation.
Phyllis Caron: LePage ‘wrong, wrong, wrong’ for Maine
Not again. I sure hope we learned from the first time. Look at it this way: Paul LePage is always angry, has a potty mouth, always blames someone else, and vetoes many things that come on his desk. I mean, he even wanted to stop state subsidies for Meals on Wheels. He has no compassion […]
Julie and Craig Martin: Rabasco ‘ideal person’ to be next tri-county DA
We have known Ed Rabasco for 20 years. We appreciate his intellect as he volunteers to fulfill the duties of moderating Poland town meetings and serving on the RSU 16 school board for 12 years. His dedication to his community is unwavering. Rabasco is the ideal candidate for district attorney because he would work collaboratively […]
Diane Grandmaison: ‘Experience counts,’ re-elect Rep. Cloutier
Sometimes you meet a person, and you think the person is interesting. You meet the same person again and you know this person is a born leader. Of course, I’m talking about Kristen Cloutier. She has served on the Lewiston School Committee and was elected to the Lewiston City Council. She was chosen by council […]
Tamera Grieshaber: Rep. Cloutier ‘a proven transformational leader for Lewiston’
I am pleased to endorse Kristen Cloutier as state representative for newly-created House District 94. Kristen has a long history of community service, as past mayor of Lewiston, City Council president, Ward 5 councilor, and two terms as the representative of District 60, prior to redistricting. I have never met anyone whose dedication to serving […]
Leonard Pitts Jr.: America in winter
This … is a nation where the trees have gone barren and the birds have flown, a nation shivering in the Alpine freeze of disunion, disaffection and disillusionment, of disinvestment in the greater us.
Roger Fuller: Vote for Craven for integrity, experience
In November, we face a choice for our representatives to Augusta. Their work is important as they consider what is best for our community, our city, and our state. To be successful, we need to elect a person of integrity and a person with experience. Margaret Craven is just such a person as she runs […]
