Attempts to ban certain guns will not solve the problem. Recalling and teaching ancient truths will help. That will require a different kind of action than what we have experienced in recent years.

In rebuttal: Sen. Heather Sanborn: Rep. Morris is wrong on health care costs
Health insurance is incredibly complicated. But what isn’t complicated is that access to health insurance saves lives. As Senate chair of the Legislature’s Health Coverage, Insurance and Financial Services Committee for the past four years, I’ve worked with both Democrats and Republicans to make it easier for people to access affordable health care coverage and […]
Stacie Field: School budget referendum has placed ‘undue burden’ on RSUs
On April 2 I gave up my Saturday morning to attend the Poland Town Meeting. I wanted to vote on the business of the town, and I knew that was my only chance, so I attended. The district budget meeting is the school system’s town meeting style budget meeting. Title 20-A M.R.S. §1482-A requires RSUs […]
Ben Lounsbury: Explaining specifics behind ‘Protect Lake Auburn’ effort
People have seen the signs, “Protect Lake Auburn.” The general meaning needs no explanation, but the specifics deserve elaboration. Lake Auburn is the drinking water supply for Lewiston and Auburn. In rebuttal: Rudolph Ziehm: U.S. is better off today than under Trump
I read a letter asking, “are you better off now than you were two years ago?” (“Is U.S. better off now versus 2 years ago?,” May 31). Well, I now know that, since then, we didn’t wake up to find COVID had gone away overnight like then-President Trump had said. There are a million, and […]
Austin Bay: Communist China’s global plan emerges
Communist China’s violations of Taiwanese airspace and sea space are a physical indication Beijing targets Taiwan as the world’s next Ukraine.
Leonard Pitts Jr.: ‘Real ‘ conservatives are about 30 years too late
They stood by and watched as the values they claimed to venerate were smeared in sludge and the name they used to brand themselves was snatched away like money by a playground bully. What it used to mean, folks, it means no more. The fringe became the mainstream. The game played the player. The tail wagged the dog.
