Froma Harrop: Yes, our economic problems are ‘high class’
White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain recently got sucked into the cyclone when he approved of a tweet that called most of our current economic challenges “high class problems.” The view that some positive developments lay behind current inflation and supply-chain woes mutated into cause for outrage. Pundits on both CNN and Fox News pummeled Klain for alleged insensitivity to consumer suffering.
Carole Richards: Biden’s ‘new social agenda’ good for middle class
I encourage people to support President Biden’s new social agenda. If money flows to the top earners it goes into banks, sometimes in foreign countries. But if money flows to the middle class it is spent locally on food, daycare, new cars, gas, etc. The minimum wage increase is finally enough to support families in […]
Carl Dill: Hawes offers drive, determination to Auburn council
When I heard of Ryan Hawes, the first question I had was why I should vote for him for Auburn City Council. It’s a valid question. And what makes him special? Will he support Auburn’s growth and stand for lowering our taxes? Does he believe that people should have the flexibility to do what they […]
Gail Shelley: Council candidate Hawes sees ‘big picture’ for Auburn
I had the pleasure Oct. 11 of meeting Ryan Hawes, who is running for City Council in Auburn’s Ward 2. I cannot stress enough how excellent Ryan would be as a city councilor. He’s a retired Marine who is a vice president in a local banking institute, raising his family in Auburn. He understands business, […]
Elaine St. Pierre: Vote Sheline for Lewiston mayor
I am writing in support of Carl Sheline, who is running for mayor of the city of Lewiston. As an active LA Metro Chamber Board member and business owner, I know how important a business-friendly environment is. I am encouraged by Carl’s plan to invest in economic development and work to attract new business prospects […]
Cal Thomas: Words and pictures
If a picture is worth a thousand words, how many words are necessary to express alarm when one looks at the “dozens of stacked columns of steel” worth $100 million dollars lying at the border? This is material that was supposed to finish a portion of the wall to reduce the flow and discourage new migrants from coming.
Rep. Billy Bob Faulkingham: Mainers can protect their food freedom by supporting ‘Right to Food’
Question 3, or the “Right to Food” as it’s called, is a constitutional amendment to protect the individual’s right to grow and produce our own food for ourselves and our family’s well-being. It is a right we may be grateful to have in the future, just like our other constitutional rights.
Kate Davis: Auburn City Council Ward 2 needs Hawes
I love Auburn, I love what this city has done, and love what it could do in the future. But in order to make our future as bright as possible, we need to elect the best of us who are invested with Auburn’s future outcome. I don’t want the same people who dismiss growth and […]
