You can understand the blow to France’s arms industry and pride in having such a huge submarine contract so publicly ripped up. But defense needs should be the No. 1 consideration.

Connie Hitchcock: Sheline deserves Lewiston’s vote
Carl Sheline is the person Lewiston needs as its mayor. As a local business person, Carl has demonstrated initiative in providing opportunities for entrepreneurs and support for existing establishments. He is also a strong advocate of the arts in our community, attending and helping to promote attendance at related events. Carl listens to people’s ideas […]
Leonard Pitts Jr.: Goodbye, and good riddance
This is for those of you who’ve chosen to quit your jobs rather than submit to a vaccine mandate.
Cal Thomas: An economic history lesson
In the U.S., the prosperity unleashed by lower taxes and fewer regulations has proven to increase employment, raise wages and boost individual prosperity for those willing to work and take minimal risks, such as moving to states that provide better opportunities. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, courses were done remotely last year, but as the world has returned to a new normal state, I was tasked with finding childcare for this fall when classes resumed in person. […]
Maurice Chabot: Sheline should be Lewiston’s mayor
I support Carl Sheline, candidate for mayor of Lewiston. I have known him for over five years, and know his belief in Lewiston. Carl has ideas about continuing to invest in the economic development of the community, to attract new businesses and help current ones thrive, about cleaning up the graffiti and making our green […]
Kimberly Sampson: Elect Dana Staples to Auburn City Council
Too often, Auburn city leadership has taken the wrong path. Too many are beholden to outmoded ideas, retrograde trends, and regressive policies that make life more challenging and more expensive. From special interests, which organize to amplify niche agendas, to the sad institutional inertia of politics, as usual-moderate, pragmatic perspectives are drowned out by political […]
