In response to the Sun Journal article June 1, “911 divides Twin Cities” — that is a prime example of why the merger of Lewiston and Auburn will never work. Officials cannot even agree on splitting the money evenly for 911 calls because Lewiston’s percentage of calls is higher than Auburn’s. Joseph Roy, Lewiston

Keeping this country free
I watched “Saving Private Ryan” on Memorial Day. In that movie, a family lost three of their four sons and it made me think of my sons. I have three serving in the Army — one just back from Afghanistan, one in Kuwait and one who is a patient at Walter Reed Hospital. When I […]
An important article
What a wonderful article — “Get Defensive” — in the B-section of the May 29 Sun Journal. Mark LaFlamme did a great job gathering that most important information. The contributors all had very valuable tips to save people’s lives. I think the pointer to not turn a vehicle’s wheels to the left when preparing for […]
Against L-A consolidation
As a city councilor from Auburn, I want to express my strong opposition to the proposed merger of the cities of Auburn and Lewiston. It is a terrible idea that will have negative consequences, especially for Auburn. Auburn was first settled in 1786 and was incorporated in 1842. The ancestors of many residents have lived […]
Crockett deserving of support
Jarrod Crockett, of Bethel, deserves voters’ support for judge of probate in Oxford County. He has represented multitudes of people in probate matters over the course of his legal career with his own firm, Siegel and Crockett, as well previously with Hanley and Associates. He served six years in the Maine House of Representatives, including […]
Negative consequences
The short-term effects of marijuana include problems with memory and learning, distorted perception, difficulty in thinking and problem-solving and loss of coordination. Although more studies are needed on the impact of marijuana concentrates, it is clear that in order to prevent use by youth, public education and awareness of the potential health risks are critical. […]
Let us not forget
D-Day, the 6th of June, 1944 — there are fewer of us now who actually remember that day. Subsequently, it was depicted in the motion pictures “The Longest Day” and “Saving Private Ryan.” America paid a heavy price for success that day. The European campaign in World War II has received much review and notice […]
Don’t repeal current Rumford ordinance
I hope other residents will join me in voting no on Article 6 to repeal Rumford Ordinance Chapter 33D. Residents are being asked to replace the current Wind Energy Facility Ordinance 33D with a copy of the state model, which is falsely labeled as recommended. The template that was used has very little in regards […]
Fuller believes in the four Es
I am writing in support of Roger Fuller for Maine House of Representatives District 59 (Lewiston) in the June 14 Democratic primary. I have known Fuller for more than 25 years. He is caring, enthusiastic, hardworking and knowledgeable. He and his wife, Gina, are both retired teachers, and his two children are in education. He […]
An excellent representative
I have known Roger Fuller for 30 years. He was one of my children’s teachers at Oak Hill High School, where he was a true professional leader. I was a member of the union school committee when he was employed as an English teacher. Later, as a member of the district administrative team, I had […]
