A new 24/7 homeless shelter with 24 beds that will provide services to guests has been proposed to the city council. The Lewiston Auburn Transitional Resource Center, spearheaded by Megan Parks, a local social worker and School Committee Member, and Kevin Boilard, who runs Kaydenz Kitchen Food Pantry say there is a need for a facility that offers fulltime residency with services all under one roof. The group is seeking $600,000 from Lewiston, Auburn and state funding to purchase and renovate the building. Several city councilors voiced concerns while other city officials pointed out the groups plans do not meet requirements to qualify for funding. Others were concerned with a lack of common space outside the building that might cause problems with area businesses and homeowners.
