Sara Sims is the principal at Robert V. Connors Elementary School. She and her family moved from Virginia to Maine in June.
The doors to Connors Elementary School will be open to the public during a grand opening and open house on August 22 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
At least 13 countries are represented from within the student body at Connors Elementary School, said principal Sara Sims.
Students from Longley Elementary and Martel Elementary worked together on a "character traits" mural that was installed at the new Connors Elementary School. Students made a panel for each of the traits that they wanted to bring with them to their new school. Those traits are: bold, hard working, friendly, creative, caring and brilliant.
The Connors Elementary dragon mascot was designed by the school's art teacher, Kelsey Boucher, with input from the students.
Staff hold a workshop in the full-size gym at Connors Elementary. Between the gymnasium and the cafeteria is a performance art space with risers.
Connors Elementary principal Sara Sims said that the open house "will be a fun and engaging event."
There are two break rooms for teachers at Connors Elementary School on the first floor and two break rooms on the second floor. "It's not always about the work. You need a break," said principal Sara Sims.
