Steve Reed, 77, of Auburn takes a piece of chocolate Tuesday from a mailbox on the marked snowshoe trails of the Auburn Nordic Ski Association. Volunteers with ANSA put chocolate in the boxes for children to snack on during Sunday afternoon ski lessons. Reed said he has only grabbed a piece of chocolate twice. "I hate to feel guilty about taking chocolate from the mouth of a child," said Reed.

The snowshoe trails that stretch between Lost Valley and the Auburn Nordic Ski Association parking lot on Perkins Ridge Road run for about four miles.

Steve Reed, 77, of Auburn said snowshoeing fits well with his pace of life. "I tried downhill skiing, but I hit too many trees," said Reed.
