Who ever thought an American bleeding out from a disastrous pregnancy would have to be flown to safety in her own country?

If past is prologue, and Trump in a second term ends up using Heritage’s big book as a policy blueprint again, this 920-page tome offers plenty to keep more moderate folks, like me, awake at night.

The Heritage Foundation’s “Project 2025” policy guide is full of credible proposals. Rather than allow opponents to mischaracterize them, people should read the book and see whether they are radical or rational.

If they want peace, for the next 10 years NATO nations and their Pacific allies must spend 3% of GDP on defense. Current U.S. defense spending? About 3%.

Referencing the migrants entering the country through the southern border, Donald Trump said, “They’re taking Black jobs now — and it could be 18, it could be 19 and even 20 million people. They’re taking Black jobs, and they’re taking Hispanic jobs, and you haven’t seen it yet, but you’re gonna see something that’s going to be the worst in our history.”

The religious conservatives in Louisiana pushing the placement of the Ten Commandments in classrooms do seem more intent on waging a cultural war than improving the moral climate in schools. After all, polls show most of them supporting a presidential candidate who has shown little remorse for cheating on his wives. To refresh, Commandment No. 7 states, “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”

An increasingly feeble President Biden was a crisis waiting to happen, and now that the crisis is upon us, there’s no easy way out.

Instead of fighting for the Omnicause, activists are better advised to think small. By taking the time and effort to understand the views and experiences of the marginalized communities they are trying to reach, they can make progress on real problems and sidestep the fatbergs.

For the sake of his family, himself and especially the country, President Biden should have an immediate cognitive test performed by an independent physician with complete results released to the public. Anything less — or nothing at all — is unacceptable and puts the nation in danger by a president who increasingly appears incapable of fully performing his duties.

In the unlikely event Biden decides on his own to step aside for the good of his party, his country and, for that matter, the world, we will get one of the most dramatic political spectacles this country has seen in most of our lifetimes.
