In 2024 — or even 2028 — can the U.S. fight and win two major simultaneous wars, one in Europe and one in the western Pacific?

Elections can’t be legitimate only if your side wins and illegitimate if the other side is victorious. That attitude is the fastest way to undermine the United States into divided states and a perpetually divided people.

We can do without the nostalgia unless it helps us to deal with the challenges of today’s world.

Stock prices are hitting record highs. Unemployment is at its lowest level in 50 years. Violent crime — murder, rape, aggravated assault and robbery — has dropped to a near 50-year low. The net worth of American households stands at record levels.

Today, we have politicians who mumble, slur their words, repeat themselves and in other ways make no sense. They neither inspire, nor unite.

Somehow I don’t think, despite the entreaties of those on the right who fret about the state of our military, that Donald Trump would endorse something as politically unpopular as a return of the draft. But he’s not the most predictable of candidates.

One must ask why the anti-Israel left, so sensitive to racist practices less obvious than this one, aren’t setting up tents and recharging their bullhorns to protest Russia’s war crimes. They just look the other way.

The antisemitic rhetoric and menacing nature of that event — in a different, left-wing form — are being replicated all over the country in openly hateful pro-Hamas protests.

Shouldn’t Europeans be concerned in the same way as many Americans about open borders, high taxes, jobs taken by migrants, lawlessness, crime, inflation, and a general feeling of despair about where their individual countries and continent are headed?
