Sara Joan Powers, ’11 of Auburn, has been awarded a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Summer Fellowship at Bowdoin College. The fellowships provide funding for interdisciplinary undergraduate research, particularly in biochemistry and neuroscience, and for student research in marine biology and other biological field studies conducted at Bowdoin’s  Coast Studies Center on Orrs Island.

Paul C. Farnum, a resident of Farmington, received a bachelor of science in finance from the College of Business at Alfred University, Alfred, N.Y., during commencement exercises May 16. Farnum is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin P. Farnum of Farmington and is a graduate of Mt. Blue High School.

Staci Cushman of Oxford made Lasell College’s spring dean’s list. Cushman is a member of the class of 2011 and is majoring in psychology.
