Nothing makes me madder than being lied to.

I realize that there are many people who want slot machines in Maine, but there are proper ways to go about getting them.

I believe our country is the greatest in the world and, even with its flaws, our government is still the greatest on the planet.

My husband and I were heading into Hannaford on Spring Street recently when a man who had a petition to sign approached us. He asked us if we would like to sign to lower prescription costs for the elderly and disabled. Well, of course, we wanted to sign it.

My husband signed it first and, as I looked on, I read the fine print. What the man didn’t say was that it was attached to allowing slot machines in Maine.

This was very deceitful and we felt like we were being scammed. If the only way they can get this through is to deceive people, then you have to wonder what other things these people are trying to hide.

I also can’t help but wonder how many other people signed this and didn’t realize they were being deceived or what they were actually signing.

We tend to be in a hurry when we are going shopping and one wouldn’t normally look at what was in print because, after all, the man just told us what we were signing. The only reason I caught it was because I was looking over my husband’s shoulder.

People have a lot to say about the way Doug and Sonia Taylor go about their ministry but, as for me and my house, we support them 100 percent. I hope they decide to protest this because we will certainly be there picketing with them.

I have a lot of respect for someone who has the guts to stand up for what they believe in and the Taylors are exactly what they present to the public — God-fearing Bible-believing Pentecostal Christians who teach loving your neighbor is the only way.

I am honored to be counted among them.
