He was born in Danville on Jan. 5, 1935, the son of Ernest W. and Alice E. Tolman LaChance. He was educated in the schools of Danville and Auburn. On June 28, 1952, he married the former Doris Pratt and together they had five children. Always a hard worker, he hauled wood for Morin Brick Co. for many years and later in life was employed for 18 years by the Maine Turnpike Authority in the Maintence Division retiring in 1985 due to ill health.

He was a member of the Farmers Draft Horse Club and loved attending the area fairs and competing in draft horse competition along with his son Billy and his faithful companions Chub and Jim.

He will be remembered for his smile, his loyalty to his family and his kindness to others.

Survivors include his wife, Doris, of Danville; two daughters, Ms. Connie L. Field of Danville and Mrs. Richard (Mary L.) Hersom of Buckfield; three sons, Michael A. Lachance and his wife, Norma, of Auburn, James K. Lachance and his wife, Ramona, of Harrison and William K. LaChance and his wife, Kimberly, of Canton; three sisters, Mrs. Peter (Alma) Leonardos of N.H., Mrs. Reginald (Barbara) Jordan of Poland and Priscilla Heath of North Monmouth; 17 grandchildren, Dawn Washburn, Michael Lachance II, Luke LaChance, Kerri Brown, Jessica Field, Seth Anketell, Andrew Anketell, James Anketell, Noah Hersom, Nicholas Hersom, Paul Hersom, Heather LaChance, Joni LaChance, Jennifer Frutos, Andrea Morganson, Sam Ross and Randy Donald LaChance; seven great-grandchildren, Jasen Washburn, Jordon Brown, Adam Brown, Emily Brown, Alyssa Neptune, Sarah Frutos and Sam Morganson.

He was predeceased by a son, Kenneth LaChance; a daughter, Marilyn LaChance; a daughter-in-law, Michelle LaChance; a sister, Marion Parlee; and four brothers, Linwood, Russell, Bobby and Billy LaChance.
