WESTBROOK — In an effort to provide support to U.S. troops and their families during the war in Iraq, Maine’s Credit Union League announce that it has established “Operation Phone Home.”

During the two-week program, participating credit unions across Maine are collecting and donating phone cards and/or cash. Upon its conclusion, the Maine Credit Union League will contribute all phone cards and a check to the USO to distribute to troops and their families.

Jon Paradise, director of communications for the league, said, “This is about finding a way to help our troops and their families during this difficult time. Phone cards will be used for not only troops to call their families but also for families to call other family members for support while their loved ones are deployed in the Middle East. Providing some comfort to troops and their families is our primary goal.”

Credit unions are conducting the drive through April 10, with a goal to collect at least 50,000 minutes.
