FARMINGTON — Each year Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District sponsors a poster contest in cooperation with the Maine and National Association of Conservation Districts. The winners were announced recently.

The key to the program is to provide a time each year where students learn about natural resource conservation. The posters produced are a means of getting students to focus on this important topic. Posters are also a means where students can personalize conservation knowledge and attitudes and put them in their own words and images.

First and second places winners in each division from the district’s poster contest are sent to the state level for judging. First place state winners proceed to the national level. Prizes are awarded at each level.

There were 100 posters submitted for the district’s 2002-2003 Food for the Future poster contest. First place winners will receive a $50 savings bond. Second and third place winners will receive a tree to plant as an ornament or as a Christmas tree.
