FARMINGTON – Josephine Eyestone Allyn, 90, wife of C. Vance Allyn (deceased), died peacefully in her home in Farmington, on April 7. She instilled in her progeny her passions for art, gardening, literature, music, generosity, community service and a strong sense of family.

Mrs. Allyn was born in Foochow, China, the only child of missionaries from Mt. Vernon, Iowa. She lived in China for 14 years. She graduated from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, with a major in sociology and organ.

She and her husband lived in Rutland, Vt., East Greenwich, R.I. and New London, N.H., until he retired in 1970. They lived in Charleston, R.I. until they moved to Farmington, in 1993.

Mrs. Allyn was an organist and was involved in many church and community activities. She and her husband traveled extensively around the world during their retirement. She was a member of Old South Church and its Outreach Committee. Most recently she was an active participant in St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Wilton. She was a member of the Farmington Historical Society and the Monday Club.

Survivors include five children; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and seven in-laws. Mrs. Allyn’s children are Jerome (and Frances Werner) Allyn of Colchester, Vt., Karyl (and Roger Condit) of Farmington, Dennis (and Sine Dodge) Allyn of Rochester, Vt., Lynn Allyn Young of Chicago, Ill. and Kent Allyn of Kittery.
