RUMFORD – Hoping to make this Easter eggs-tra special the,River Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Mexico Fire Department teamed up to sponsor the first 10-town Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday in several area towns.

By 10 a.m. 88 children had arrived at the Hotel Harris in Rumford to exchange their egg for an Easter Basket filled with candy. One hundred eggs were hidden by volunteers in the towns of Andover, Byron, Canton, Carthage, Dixfield, Hanover, Mexico, Peru, Roxbury and Rumford.

W.O.X.O. Radio Station, which broadcast live from the Hotel Harris from 6 to 9 a.m., gave clues on where the eggs could be found.

Another 100 eggs were hidden in the Mexico Rec Center for children up to age 6.

“We’ve been Egg Basket Central here this morning,” said Barbara Belanger of Rumford, a volunteer with the chamber.

“And we wouldn’t have been able to do it without her,” said executive secretary Tammy Lyons. “She was here to greet the kids and hand out baskets.”

Lyons also wished to thank the hotel officials, who not only provided the facilities for the event but also coffee, hot chocolate and pastries for participants.
