CHICAGO (AP) – Taylor Twellman scored in the 41st minute to lift the New England Revolution to a 1-1 tie with
the Chicago Fire on Sunday in the season opener for both teams.
Twellman, the reigning Major League Soccer scoring champion, ran past Kelly Gray and Jim Curtin to shoot from 10 yards, but the ball bounced off the left post. Twellman corralled the rebound and his second effort went in off the foot of Gray. Wolde Harris assisted on the goal.
DaMarcus Beasley tallied the lone Fire goal in the 35th minute.
After passes from offseason acquisitions Andy Williams and Rodrigo Faria, Beasley fell inside the penalty area but got enough of his foot on the ball to push it past goalkeeper Adin Brown.
Beasley had another scoring opportunity in the 68th minute, but his attempt sailed wide.
