PORTLAND – Hadlock Field continues to be Jorge De LaRosa’s personal House of Horrors.

The left-hander was roughed up as a visitor with Trenton over the last two seasons to the tune of a 24.45 earned run average.

Tuesday night’s debut in the home white of the Portland Sea Dogs was no different.

De La Rosa allowed five hits and five runs and was yanked after just 2 2/3 innings in the Binghamton Mets 12-0 victory over the Sea Dogs.

“(De La Rosa) threw some good pitches to get ahead in the count,” said Portland manager Ron Johnson. He just couldn’t put guys away. That’s all part of the learning process.”

De La Rosa’s counterpart, Phil Seibel, allowed just two hits over five shutout innings. The left-hander, who was sent down from Triple-A Norfolk when the parent New York Mets added David Cone to their roster, struck out four and walked one while lowering his ERA to 0.90.

“It was one of those nights where it looked liked he was thinking two or three pitches ahead,” Binghamton catcher John Wilson said of Seibel. “He had that kind of feel.”

Just two Sea Dogs hitters reached second base, with one coming as a result of a throwing error on Dustin Brisson’s infield single in the fifth inning.

“We had a numbers problem and that’s the only reason he’s here,” said Binghamton manager John Stearns. “He could easily be in the rotation in Norfolk.”

Seibel actually made the Norfolk roster out of spring training, but was the odd man out when Mike Bascik was sent down by the parent Mets.

“It wasn’t like it was a huge surprise,” Seibel said of being sent down. “But this is a good situation to be in. I still have a shot at getting the call from here.”

No. 9 hitter Marvin Seale had four hits and scored three times and Daniel Garcia added two hits and three RBI for the Mets, who pounded out 14 hits against four Portland pitchers.

Seale came into the game hitting just .111.

“That’s the great thing about this game,” said Seale. “You can have a week where you go 0-for-20 and then one night you go four-for-four and then two-for-four and you’re right back on track.”

Binghamton sent nine men to the plate in both the third and sixth inning, scoring five and four runs, respectively.

In the third, Wilson and Seale had back-to-back singles to center. After a strikeout, Garcia doubled home the game’s first run. One out later, Seale scored on a wild pitch when De La Rosa (0-2) bounced a 1-2 pitch to Craig Brazell past catcher Andy Dominique. Brazell singled home Garcia and after a walk chased De La Rosa, scored himself on Chris Basak’s two-run double off of reliever Charlie Weatherby.

The Mets scored twice in the fourth and added four more runs (three unearned) in the sixth against Weatherby (2 2/3 innings, seven hits, two walks, one strikeout).

Jeff Duncan picked up his second RBI with a ninth-inning ground out after Brian Adams walked the first three batters he faced.

Three relievers held Portland to just one hit over the final four innings.

It was the second straight night Binghamton had 14 hits.

“Our pitching and defense has been strong,” said Stearns. “Now that the offense is going, we’re encouraged.”

Sea Dogs notes: The team learned Tuesday that second baseman Carlos Leon suffered a cracked fibula in Monday night’s home opener. Leon was injured on a take-out slide at second base.
