1914 – 2003

Lewiston-Irene Ware, 88, a resident of Marshwood Health Care Facility, died at Central Maine Medical Center Friday, April 18, following a short illness. She has now gone to be with the Lord.

Born in Fairfield on Aug. 27, 1914, she was the daughter of Virgil and Cora Mathieu Gagnon. She was a lifelong resident of Auburn.

Married to Aubrey Ware from 1936 to 1977, Mrs.Ware worked in the local shoe industry from which she would later retire. She was also a wonderful seamstress, and in her earlier years did a lot of needlework. Some of her favorite times were spent with her family and friends – on Sundays, they would eat lunch and then spend the afternoon around the card table and, during the week, play beano.

On her own time, she loved to watch Tiger Woods play golf and listen to her Lawrence Welk music. Many special times were spent with her niece Jean and extended family. Christmas was a very fun time for her, when she would prepare little tin boxes filled with needums and peanut butter balls as gifts for all her many loved ones.

In her later years she always looked forward to the carolers from South Lewiston Baptist Church who would come and visit her. With her beautiful smile and tears of joy, she would sing along to her favorite song, “Silent Night”.

Survivors include grandchildren Harold Dumond of Auburn, Andrew and Debra Letourneau of Lisbon, Rick and Pam Grenier of Lewiston, Jerry McClintock and fiancé Patty of Lewiston, Jeffrey and Cathy McClintock of Lewiston, Darold and Jeannine Dumond of North Carolina, David Hirsh and fiancé Diance of Canton, Linda Hirsh of Lewiston, Dale Sebra of Auburn, Tim and Diane Sebra of Elk Grove Calif., Suzanne Campbell and fiancé Steve of Sabattus, Jeffrey Campbell Jr. of Poland and step sister Alma Vachon of Sabattus; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
