SURRY (AP) – Authorities are investigating the discovery of a body Tuesday morning along the shore.

The body was identified as that of a Maine woman in her 30s but her name was not immediately released pending notification of relatives, said Stephen McCausland of the Maine Public Safety Department.

The body was found in Contention Cove, which is in Patten Bay in east Surry. A homeowner made the discovery at 8:30 a.m.

The body was taken to the medical examiner’s office in Augusta, where an autopsy will be conducted Wednesday or Thursday, McCausland said.

State police, who have not characterized her manner of death, will continue to investigate while awaiting the autopsy results, he said.
