STANDISH-St. Joseph’s College rallied with six runs in the sixth inning to defeat state rival Southern Maine 11-7 in the opener of a doubleheader at Larry Mahaney Diamond.
USM took the nightcap, 6-2.
The Monks had jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead after three innings against the Huskies.
But the visitors scored a single run in the fourth and then took the lead on six more runs in the fifth inning.
The Monks answered with six runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning to take for the 11-7 win.
Jessie LaCasse continued his torrid hitting, belting out a home run and a single. Lucas Hannigan and Jake Rodden each added a home run in the win.

The Huskies were paced by Adam Lemieux and Brian Marshall, who also drilled home runs, Tip Fairchild added a pair of singles.
The nightcap saw the Huskies walk away with a 6-2 win as Sam Handy picked up the win. He went six innings, surendering five hits before giving way to Pat Liddy in the seventh.
USM was paced by Colin Loveless, Fairchild and Drew Palmer with a pair of safeties each in the victory.
The Monks were led by Derek McIntosh and LaCasse, who each had a pair of hits.
UMF sweeps Lyndon St.
FARMINGTON – John Rutkiewicz pitched a three-hitter as UMaine-Farmington swept past Lyndon State College 11-1 in the second game of a doubleheader Monday. UMF also won the first game in a 17-7 rout.
In Game 1, Justin Quimby cracked three hits for the Beavers and drove in four runs. Dustin Armitage added two hits, including a double, and James Writer and Dave Sharland each added a pair of singles. Jeff Casavant took the win.
Writer, Tom Ventura and Eric Cummings each had multiple hits in the nightcap in a game shortened by the mercy rule to five innings. Zack Reed added a triple.
Softball
Maine, Vermont split
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Lauren Dulkis went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored to lift Maine to a 3-1 victory over Vermont in the first game of a doubleheader Monday.
Jess Brady added two hits for the Black Bears (19-19) .
Jenna Merchant picked up the win for Maine, allowing six hits while striking out five.
Vermont rebounded in the second game, picking up its first win in 14 games with a 4-1 win. Brady again had two hits for Maine.
Sarah Bennis went the distance in the loss for Maine.
UMF sweeps Fisher
FARMINGTON – Lauren Stacey tossed a two-hit shutout as UMaine-Farmington collected a 24-0 triumph over Fisher College in the opener of a doubleheader.
The Beavers (15-10) banged out 21 hits on the game, scoring four runs in each of the first two innings before erupting for 10 in the third.
In Game 2, it was more of the same as Jessica Wenckus tossed another two-hitter in a 17-1 romp.
Doris Reitchel had 5 RBIs for the Beavers.
Bowdoin-St. Joe’s split
STANDISH – Bowdoin and St. Joseph’s swapped a pair of 2-1 decisions Monday.
Erin Hanley pitched a five-hitter in the Polar Bears’ victory, while Kahler Dowling scattered 10 hits for the Monks. Kristi Royer had four hits in the doubleheader.
