JAY – Something exciting is happening this summer in the Jay/Livermore Falls area! Terre pis Ciel (Earth and Sky), a festival to celebrate the rich French-Canadian culture of these towns, will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9. The festival will be held in the field behind Albert and Constance St. Pierre’s old chicken barn on Route 133 in Jay.

A native of Jay, the festival coordinator, Adele St. Pierre is inviting young and old, Franco or not, to enjoy a day of traditional French-Canadian music by both local and Quebecois bands. The event will be free to the public.

Activities will include face-painting, simple relay race events and a family-tree poster contest. St. Pierre plans to create a scholarship fund with any proceeds made at the festival through the sale of 50/50 and other raffle tickets and food sold at the donated food table. The scholarship would benefit a student from Jay or Livermore Falls studying at UMF or Orono and wishing to participate in the Quebec May term.

St. Pierre is interested in providing space for local vendors to sell their wares, and is particularly interested (but not limited to) in farm-oriented products or items that are related to the Franco-American identity.

St. Pierre is also calling on area businesses and individuals to help cover the costs of entertainment and other services like sound-engineering and staging. Individuals interested in making cash, product or service donations should contact her at 761-1535 or at [email protected] for more details.

The festival is a nonprofit organization supported by the town of Jay.
