1921 – 2003

NORWAY – Mildred Leighton Turner, 82, of Harrison Road, Norway, passed away May 8, with her loving family by her side.

She was born on Jan. 6, 1921, in Gardiner, the daughter of Irving and Agnes (Cox) Leighton. She enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and camping trips with her husband. She also enjoyed gardening and working around the house.

She and her husband Vernon owned Turner ESSO (Turner Mobil) at the Five Corners in Poland for 40 years where her duties included bookkeeping and attendant. They retired to N. Waterford in 1979 until her husbands passing in 1984. She then moved to Cottage Street, Norway. For the past three years she has resided with her daughter, Patricia and her family on Harrison Road, Norway.

She is survived by her brothers, Irving Leighton Jr. and his wife Edith of Gray and Lester Leighton and his wife Phyllis in Los Angeles, CA.; sister, Ada Nelson of Auburn; daughter, Patricia Turner Martin and her husband Joseph Jr. of Norway; granddaughters, Angeline Smith of Portland and Cassandra Martin of Norway.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Vernon Turner; her brothers, Clarence and Donald Leighton; and her sister, Dorothy Leighton Cote.
