I am writing to comment on the consistent whining I read in the Sun Journal about the supposed lack of jobs in the Auburn/Lewiston area.

On May 18 I read a letter to the editor titled “What jobs?” Perhaps the letter writer should have read the classifieds.

There are over 350 jobs listed this week covering all ranges of talent. I check almost every week and see at least 200 jobs listed.

On the front page of the Business section on May 18 you ran a story titled “More than half of Class of ’03 won’t have jobs.” Since when does society owe anyone the perfect job the day they walk out of college? Whatever happened to starting somewhere down the ladder and working your way up to a better position with better pay?

I have many contacts in the business community who tell me they can’t find employees willing to work. If you do not have a job, you must not be looking or perhaps you think you are too good to work your way up the ladder of success.
