JAY – A free, Summer Safety and Wellness Event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, in the Jay Plaza parking lot.

This follow-up to last year’s successful first summer wellness happening for families is now an annual event co-sponsored by Hannaford Brothers and Franklin Community Health Network.

A variety of activities for the entire family will take place, including safety education and displays on topics such as fire, boating and water, bike and skin safety, blood pressure screenings, fingerprinting for kids, Jaws of Life and fire extinguisher demonstrations, skin screenings, book sale to benefit the United Way, karate and flower arranging demonstrations, musical entertainment and dance demonstrations.

There will be 20 door prizes given, including a fire extinguisher, bird feeder, flowers and gift certificates.

“The Wellness Committee at Hannaford Brothers initially came up with the idea of hosting the festive event that features a summer safety theme. This year’s exciting program offers even more fun and activities,” said Denise Higgins, RN, Franklin Memorial Hospital scorekeeper nurse and the wellness nurse at Hannaford Brothers in Jay and Farmington.

In addition to the major co-sponsors, the Summer Safety Event also is supported by the American Cancer Society, B&D Fire Protection, Class Act School of Dance, Colortyme, CES Ambulance Service, Family Wellness & Fitness Center, Fitness Stylz, Franchetti’s Home Town Variety, Hair Doctor, Healthy Community Coalition, Hood, Jay Fire Department, Jay Police Department, LaFleur’s Restaurant, Livermore Fall’s Fire Department, Maple Lane Inn and Golf Course, Paris Farmer’s Union, Skowhegan Savings Bank, Subway, Movie Gallery, Tasteful Creations, Universal Karate, UMF Health & Fitness Center, Western Maine Family Health Center and Jay and Livermore Falls High School volunteers.
