GRAY – The Maine Wildlife Park will hold a free open house from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31.

The 200-acre park has more than 25 species of wildlife on exhibit, including moose, black bear, lynx, mountain lions, white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, bald eagles, hawks, owls and trophy trout. The open house is sponsored by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

There will be special demonstrations, displays and information on topics ranging from radio-tracking wild animals to boating safety. Inland Fisheries Commissioner Roland D. Martin, as well as Maine Game Wardens, hatchery personnel and fisheries and wildlife biologists will be on hand.

Wildlife and fishery management programs will be highlighted, with tanks fall of native warm-water and cold-water fish. Maine Warden Service Search and Rescue K-9s and the Maine Warden Service Dive Team will attend. Biologists will conduct demonstrations on wildlife habitat enhancement.

Visitors can bring lunch and have a picnic at the grill and picnic area or take a walk on the nature trails. Guests will see the new fish house and turtle exhibit. The new coyote exhibit also will be completed this year, and the Nature Store has been enlarged with many new items.

The Maine Wildlife Park is in Gray and is operated by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. From the Maine Turnpike, take Exit 11.

Turn right and head to the first set of lights, left to the second set of lights, and left onto Route 26 north. Travel 3.5 miles north on Route 26 and look for the Maine Wildlife Park sign and entrance on the right.
