This is in regard to the letter from Dawn (May 24). If he means because I have to pay federal and state taxes on my income that I am rich, I cannot imagine where he is coming from.

However, I have become a Republican because of their stand on many issues to lower taxes. As an average Joe Schmoe, I really would like to receive any and all reductions in taxes.

There is less money put into the tax system through a tax reduction; it is not already there and then given away to the rich as Dawn suggests. We are not taking money out of the federal budget! We are just not putting as much into the budget!

It was interesting to note that on Page A2 of the same paper there was a headline “Maine may get $131M.” This article was about the same tax cut.

Talk of “party of the rich” and “windfall for the rich” only divides people. John F. Kennedy (whom I voted for) said it best when he told us that tax cuts spur the economy.

I do hope people will understand that we are in this together and being divisive only makes matters worse by not allowing common sense to prevail instead of envy and hate.

I am only rich in family and friends.
