LEWISTON – Martin Olson, the Augusta author of “Iron Shoes,” will hold a book signing from 8 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, at Mr. Paperback at the Promenade Mall.

“Iron Shoes” tells the story of Olson’s life and some of the shocking secrets he uncovered along the way.

While parts of the story may be hard to believe, Olson backs up his tale with documents and photos that are packed into the book.

Olson, now 76, was a real-estate developer who made and lost several fortunes during his lifetime. He ran with a high-profile crowd and developed shopping centers and hotels.

In 1972, Olson came to Maine and bought the old Samoset Hotel in Rockport. It burned down on Halloween night and Olson rebuilt the resort using pine timbers from the old Portland Granary that he tore down.

Olson next went to work for the Miami Group, which sent him as a development coordinator on projects to Peru, the Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sierra Leone and Cyprus.
