As a parent of a Lewiston High marching band member, I am very irritated by the letters showing up in the paper from people complaining that the band did not attend the Memorial Day festivities.

The Lewiston band was in attendance at the Veterans Memorial Park dedication, playing a selection of patriotic songs in honor of our veterans.

The Lewiston band did not march in the parade because they were too few in number to put on a decent marching presentation. Many families were gone for the weekend on vacation.

Shame should never be brought upon these kids. The ones who could make it were there, and their music was enjoyed by all who attended.

I took these attacks personally because my son is a member of my family which supports our veterans and the troops keeping us safe now.

Also, the band participates in every Veterans Day ceremony at the Lewiston Armory.

These musicians work very hard all year long and deserve nothing but praise.

In conclusion, the Lewiston High School band did the best it could on Memorial Day with the limited amount of people it could get. And it was great, as usual.
