LEWISTON – The YWCA of Central Maine announces registration of the swim lessons summer session.

Registration will begin Friday, June 13, for children age 6 months to 15 and will run for eight weeks. Lessons will begin Monday, June 23, and will run for seven weeks. Private lessons for infants to adults are also available by appointment.

Award winner

AUBURN – First Auburn Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18. After the meeting and Italian sandwich lunch, officers will be installed for the year. Bingo will be played, completing the program.

On June 4, the Charles Morse Award winner was announced by President Roger Briggs. It will be presented to Tony DeBurra, who has been an active and dedicated worker and long-time member of the club. The board of directors voted the following as honorary members: Marion Kelleher, Mona Gross, Ernestine Beaulieu and Donald Parker.

Joyce Poole announced that payment will be due on June 18 for the Summer Shines tour to Waterville Valley, N.H. She also listed other trips including Fairpoint in Raymond and an October trip to the Balsams in Dixville Notch, N.H.

Loretta Martin, Auburn Rec Department staff member, announced trips to the Arundel summer playhouse and to the Ogunquit Theater to see “Ain’t Misbehaving” on July 3.

Helen Alden and Jeannette Gagne were attendance prize winners. Pot of gold winners were George Brainerd, Guy Donahue and Caroline Chapman. Bingo was played after the bag lunch.

Telephone club

LEWISTON – The Stevens Life Member Club, Telephone Pioneers, will have a luncheon meeting on Wednesday, June 18, at the Ramada Inn. Fellowship at 11 a.m. will be followed by noon lunch and a meeting. Officers will be installed. Members and guests are asked to bring nonperishable food or monetary donations for the Oxford Hills Food Pantry.

POLAND – The Poland Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at the home of Sonny and Mary Chipman, Range Hill Road.

Chipman will show his recently built farm museum and his wife will discuss the changes taken place over the years to the farmhouse where they live.

Post 22 meeting

AUBURN – Post 22, American Legion, will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 19, in the Trinity Church Hall, 247 Bates St.

The agenda includes a membership and finance update, a report from Building Committee Chairman Joseph Paradis and discussion on proper disposal of worn flags on July 3.

Humane meeting

BRUNSWICK – The Coastal Humane Society will hold its annual meeting on Friday, June 20, at the Brunswick Golf Club, River Road.

The business meeting will be held from 7 to 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public. An annual membership gathering will begin with dinner at 8, followed by speakers, entertainment and a raffle. Music will be provided by the Funky Stella Dance Band.

The gathering is for members only. To become a member, purchase raffle tickets or request more information. Raffle tickets are available at the shelter, Brooks Feed and Farm in Brunswick, Pet Pantry in Freeport and Hair Creations in Bath.

Organ concert

AUBURN – Ed Larson, former leader of the Court Street Baptist Church music program, will present free a pipe organ concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at the church.

He has taught and performed secular and Christian music for more than 40 years and teaches music in School Union 43 and CDS 10.

Larson will play the church’s 139-year-old organ in the sanctuary. Refreshments will be served during a time of fellowship in the vestry. The public is invited. Call 784-6661 for details.

Calligraphy class

AUBURN – The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Technical College will offer a calligraphy workshop from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday June 25, in Jalbert Hall. The cost is $30 and includes materials.

Participants will learn the art of writing beautifully through calligraphy and apply that learning to create meaningful cards, letters, poems, stories or manuscripts. For more information or to register, call 755-5280.

Art show

POLAND – The third annual Maine Art Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 27, on the grounds of the Ricker Memorial Library, Maine Street, Route 26.

It is a juried exhibition with an array of art for purchase. Art work displayed during the two previous shows included water colors, oils, pastels, charcoal, pencil, pen and ink, acrylics and photography. A chicken barbecue lunch will be available at the Poland Community Church across the street. The Poland Regional High School’s steel band, Poland Knights of Steel, will perform during the day.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on June 10 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: North/South, first, Nancy Lindgren and Lucille Theriault; second, Anna Vitiello and Margaret Dunlop; third, Roger Briggs and Lucille Bilodeau. East/West winners were: first, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; second, Charles Bartlett and Joanne Morris; third, Pat Quinn and Rosemarie Goodwin.

North/South winners in Flight B were: Roger Briggs and Lucille Bilodeau. East/West winners in Flight B were: first, Charles Bartlett and Joanne Morris; second, Larry Fortier and Terry Gendron.

Another game will be held at the center at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 17. A partner is guaranteed.

The club also met on June 11 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners in Flight A were: first, Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Don Smith and Katie Love; third, Pat Quinn and Mary Leahey; tied at fourth, David Lock and Martine Begert with Don Johnson and Misha Tomic. Flight B winners were Doug and Betty Sise.
