1927 – 2003

WESTBROOK – Carl P. Baade Jr., a brief resident of Springbrook Nursing Care Center in Westbrook, died peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday, June 15.

Born in Portland, Aug. 14, 1927, the son of Carl P. Baade Sr. and Frances Daly Baade, he attended both Portland and Deering High Schools and was a graduate of New Hampshire College.

He entered the Army Air Force in 1945. Throughout his 23-year Air Force career he had tours of duty in the U.S. and abroad and he served during the Korean War.

In the 1960s, he owned and operated a lobster boat out of Portland Harbor.

After he retired from the Air Force in 1968, he was employed at the Bath Post Office until his retirement in 1979. In his later years he spent many winters in Palm Bay, Fla.

He enjoyed the simple things in life such as watching sports, playing golf and cribbage, walking on the beach, the ocean and boating, his family and friends, bluegrass music and Moxie.

He was always taking rides in the car, sometimes going someplace, sometimes just going.

His love of travel took him all over the world. Alaska, Greece and Australia were among his favorite places.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 21, the Bath Lodge of Elks, the VFW, the Slovak Catholic Association and the Masonic Cornerstone Lodge 216.

His outgoing personality and charming wit will be missed by all.
