An Ontario judge postponed the matter until July 8.
ST. THOMAS, Ont. (CP) – Boston Bruins captain Joe Thornton appeared briefly Tuesday in a courtroom in his hometown on charges of assaulting a police officer after a bar fight.
Thornton and his brother John were arrested following a May 17 brawl at Burty Bob’s Two, a bar in downtown St. Thomas. Police were called when bouncers were unable to break up the fight. Officers were knocked to the ground, but there were no serious injuries, police said.
Justice of the Peace J.P. Senachin postponed the matter to July 8 after lawyers for the Thorntons and the government agreed to the delay.
Joe Thornton was freed on bail without travel restrictions following his arrest.
His appearance in court drew a crowd of reporters and fans. But the brothers declined comment and left through a back entrance with their lawyer, Douglas Gunn.
