LIVERMORE FALLS – Denise Rodzen of Livermore Falls was re-elected as chairwoman of the SAD 36 Board of Directors Wednesday night with Jean Tardif of Livermore to serve as vice chairperson.

Welcomed as a new member of the board from Livermore was Rod Newman and attending as guests were Livermore Falls candidates Jim Collins and Elaine Smith, both of whom were appointed by the selectmen Monday night.

Since only one position needed to be filled, only one will be able to serve once the selectmen make a final designation. Having a full board from Livermore Falls is in direct contrast to recent years when positions often went unfilled.

Superintendent Terry Despres announced several appointments, noting that only one teaching position, that of elementary art, remains unfilled.

Darren Akerman of Winthrop will be the new fifth-grade teacher. He holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in education and a certificate of advanced studies. He has taught first grade, ninth-grade English and has served as an assistant principal.

Filling two first grade positions will be Christine McPherson of Canton and Jenny Baillargeon of Livermore.

McPherson has taught special education in the district for nine years and holds dual certification in special education and in elementary education K-8.

Baillargeon has held a one-year position in SAD 36, has taught first and fourth grades, combined third and fourth grades, and third, fourth and fifth grades, for a total of 15-years experience. She holds dual certification in special education and elementary education K-8.

New at the middle school this fall will be Chance Carlson of Billings, Mont., who will teach art. She has taught two years in Lockwood School and is certified in art with a bachelor’s degree in art and a master’s degree in art K-12.

At the high school, Thomas Marshall of Readfield will teach math. He has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Maine at Farmington and has taught at Mountain Valley High School in SAD 43 and has previous experience at Monmouth High School, the Lewiston Alternative Vocational Center and Edward Little High School.

Despres also announced the resignation of April Hartford as first-grade teacher at Livermore Elementary and the retirements of Louise Page from the central office and Rick Morin as fifth-grade teacher.

He also reported displacement of Heidi Broomhall as eighth-grade reading teacher, as a servicewoman is returning to the position, and Jane Hutchinson as middle school art teacher as she was not certified.

Named as Systems Support Team members were Pauline Gill, Pam Hamilton, John DiSotto, Warren Forbes and Dick Swanson.

Appointed to co-curricular/extra curricular positions at the middle school were Maureen Cyr, Unified Arts Team; Frank Williams, JV boys basketball coach; John DiSotto, baseball coach; and Try Eastman and Laureen Olsen, co-special education middle school team leaders.
