1925 – 2003

WATERVILLE – Armand C. “Hutch” Hutchinson, 78, of Belgrade, passed away June 23, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, after a long courageous battle with medical problems.

He was born in Weld, April 8, 1925, to Linwood and Christie Edna (Plummer) Hutchinson. He lived in Weld until moving to Belgrade in 1939. He graduated from Belgrade High School Class of 1943. He served with the U.S. Army Calvary in Japan during World War II.

He married Arlene Judkins in December 1951. He built his own house and they moved into it after their wedding and have lived there for 51 1/2 years.

He worked for the State of Maine Department of Transportation, first as a shovel operator for many years. Then he installed gas and diesel tanks all over the state and maintained them and the pumps for many years. He was known throughout the State Department of Transportation as “Hutch,” from Kittery to Fort Kent and even in the north Maine woods. He was know and liked by all and everyone who knew him considered him a friend. He retired after 40 years in February 1988. He never took sick leave or missed a day of work. He retired leaving two years of sick time.

His greatest love was hunting in the fall at Weld at his hunting camp with all his buddies. He also loved to attend the Fryeburg Fair and in spite of his illness made both of these trips last fall. He was an avid Red Sox fan.

“Hutch” was very close to his one daughter and his nieces and nephews. His sister, Barbara and husband, Harry have made his life much easier.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene; daughter, Christie Powell; a brother, Duncan of Weld; sisters, Barbara York and her husband, Harry of Belgrade and Marilyn Plum of Massachusetts; many special nieces and nephews; a step-grandson, Jeremy Powell of Waterville; and a special grandniece, Emily York, who has brought him a lot of joy.

He was predeceased by his parents; and two infant sisters.
