1914 – 2003

LEWISTON – Roger Nault, 88, formerly of Great Falls Plaza in Auburn, died Monday, June 23, at d’Youville Pavilion Health Care Facility.

He was born in Lewiston Dec. 11, 1914, a son of Alphonse and Marie (Frechette) Nault. He was educated in Lewiston schools and was a well-known lifelong resident of this community.

He was married to the former Jeannette Ducasse who died March 6, 1976. He later married Lucienne Breton in 1981.

Mr. Nault owned and operated the Esso Station on Main St. for 18 years and also the Esso Station on the corner of Minot Ave. and Washington St. in Auburn. He started his career as a mechanic with Joe St.Hilaire and proceeded with Jimmy Laroux. In his later years he also worked at Conrad’s Exxon and Yvon’s Super Sonic Car Wash.

In his youth, he was an amateur boxer and won the Golden Glove in 1939. He trained with Paul Jr. and Lefty Lachance. He fought many local boxers such as Antil, Blouin and Fecteau. He retired in Zephyrhills, Fla., for 10 years before moving back to Maine in 1993.

He leaves his wife Lucienne of Auburn; two sons, Raymond and wife Carolyn of Edgewater, Fla., and Roger Jr. of Oxford; daughter-in-law, Irene Nault of Lewiston; six grandchildren, Debra Brissette and companion Jerome Detzel, Brenda Fournier and husband Pete, Ricky Nault, Julie Ouellette and companion Mike Goff, John Nault and wife Ann, and Jim Nault; 11 great-grandchildren, John, Amy, and Stacey Brissette, Randy and Stacey Nault, William, Brian and Jamie Fournier, and Danielle, Nicole, and Steven Ouellette; one great-great-granddaughter, Celeste Marie Brissette; and two stepchildren, Joan Flynn and Nita Kelly.

He was predeceased by a son, Conrad Nault who passed away in May of 2000; a daughter, Joanne; and a stepson, Raymond Breton.
