1917 – 2003

WEST PARIS – Melvena M. DuBois, 86, died Friday June 27, 2003, at the Ledgeview Nursing Home in West Paris surrounded by her family. She was a resident of River Road in Mexico.

Born in Mexico on April 25, 1917, she was the daughter of James W. And Nellie May (Sargent) Gould. She received her GED from Mexico High School and had attended classes at University of Maine at Farmington. For a short time she worked in local shoe shops and later at Diamond Match Corp. in West Peru and also for SAD 43 in the cafeteria and then as a Nutrition Aid at the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, for which she primarily served the Andover area.

She was a member of the Mexico Congregational Church. She enjoyed playing the piano and also her years at camp at Breton’s Pond and traveling through the New Hampshire Mountains.

She was married in Mexico, Maine on July 24, 1937 to the late Edward DuBois who died in Rumford on September 30, 1981. Survivors include two sons; Richard J. DuBois and his wife Marjorie of Andover and James and his companion Marlene Fletcher of Peru; one daughter, Doris Howes of Brunswick; three grandchildren, Shannon Sawatsky and her husband Carey of Mexico, Craig and Erin DuBois of Andover, and three great grandchildren.
